Binary units (1 KB = 1024 B) are what operating systems and RAM use; decimal units (1 kB = 1000 B) are what disk manufacturers advertise. This tool works entirely in your browser.
Convert between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabytes, and petabytes, with both binary (1024) and decimal (1000) conventions.
Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is sent to a server.
Drive manufacturers advertise using decimal units (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes), but operating systems display sizes using binary units (1 GB = 1,073,741,824 bytes). Divide 1 trillion by 1,073,741,824 and you get about 931.
Use 1024 for RAM sizes and for the sizes your operating system reports, because those use binary units. Use 1000 for advertised disk and network speeds, which follow SI decimal units. This tool has a toggle for both conventions.
A petabyte (PB) is 1,024 terabytes in binary convention. After that: exabyte (EB), zettabyte (ZB), and yottabyte (YB).
